Yes.
Self-explanatory.

I mostly like rock, electronic rock, and all that. My favourite band is Nine Inch Nails, followed by We Are Scientists, Depeche Mode, Franz Ferdinand, etc.

So what do other TJ fans listen to?

Metal, indie rock, and electronica, primarily. I have this Big List of Bands that needs updating. Favorite band is Opeth, with Devin Townsend's work coming in as a close second. Also a big fan of Baroness, Daft Punk, Arch Enemy, Bloodbath, Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon, Guilt Machine), Lustmord, Dimmu Borgir, UnexpecT, Deathmole, Kamelot, Sabaton, Digitalism, and Deathmole (as well as the others on the band list, but those are some of my absolute favorites).

In threads like these I usually talk about I try to keep my music taste fresh and how it is constantly changing (albeit with a few favorites always playing on repeat). But instead of doing that (even though I just did), I'll be lazy and copy/paste my long, tedious Facebook Music section. The top 15 or so are who I consider my all-time favorites. What follows is a bunch of other shit I dig, the order of which has no bearing on preference.

I have a pretty broad taste in terms of genre, but I wouldn't say I "like everything" by any means. I'm actually probably more choosy about music than any other artform.

But some folks I really dig are Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, Andrew Jackson Jihad, Wu-Tang Clan, Public Enemy, Modest Mouse, Bright Eyes, Johnny Cash, Marilyn Manson, Nick Cave, The Decemberists, CAKE, Serj Tankian, The Beatles (who pretty much everyone likes in some capacity), The Shins, The Blow, and Black Flag.

There are a bunch more, but that oughta give you a decent idea.

I like a little of a lot of different genres, but not all by any means.

My favorite artist is Todd Smith and I like any of his bands (Dog Fashion Disco, The Alter Boys, Polkadot Cadaver, etc.) Lately I've been listening to Panic at the Disco and Twiztid. Other favorite bands/artists: Diablo Swing Orchestra, Van Canto, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Basshunter.

Just a shift of topic, so this doesn't become yet another "Let's list the things we like" thread:

Why do you listen to the music you listen to? What do you like about it? How did you get introduced to your favorite bands? I'd love some details.

I'm kindof sticking to American and British indie stuff at the moment. I like how energetic the music is (some of it's actually played on dancefloors) and have this weird obsession with guitar distortion.

Usually I listen to music for the obvious reasons, a genuine emotion response from it, when it comes to the sound of the music, I enjoy listening to music with a beat that I don't here in my usually day at school, something with an off putting sound but isn't too off that it's jarring. I actually learned of most of my favorite musicians from TJ, I saw him on TGWTG, I found out about TAA, then I found Cody, and from there it branched off in a huge tree that took about a year to grow, and now I know about a shit ton of really awesome bands that I would never of known of if not for TJ.

Long post ahead!

The first music I got interested in was introduced to me through my parents. My mom was a fan of grunge and awful music played on the radio every day, specifically Nickelback. For a good two years I was an avid fan of Nickelback. Right. Eurgh. Those years, man. Huge regrets.

When I was 13 and 14, a friend of mine introduced me to Dragonforce, and Opeth. From the first listen of Inhuman Rampage and Ghost Reveries, I was enthralled. Over the years, the interest in those bands expanded quickly and widely, encompassing almost all metal subgenres. I was introduced to Devin Townsend through his Ziltoid the Omniscient album, and my love of him was harsh at first, and then grew. For Dragonforce, I loved the shear guitar wankery (but no longer listen to them; their song writing is pretty shit). For Opeth, I loved their fusion of heavy-as-fuck and soft-as-air passages, and I loved Mikael Åkerfeldt's writing style and singing. I love love love Devin Townsend's production style. His wall-of-sound stuff blows me away every time. Those three core bands expanded into thrash, power, death, black, doom, and progressive metal, with my friend introducing me to more and more bands. Soon I had a collection of music consisting of over 10,000 songs (obtained completely legally of course!).

Two years ago I started reading Questionable Content. The comic's creator, Jeph Jacques, streams his comic creation five times a week, playing music and showing his screen as he draws it, allowing his fans to chat. He introduced me to a ton of indie and electronic stuff. Daft Punk, Digitalism, Justice, Animal Collective, LCD Soundsystem, Venetian Snares--tons of the stuff. He also got me interested in several bands I had heard of but wasn't a big fan of, including Turisas, Gojira, Meshuggah, and Krallice. He really helped to broaden my horizons, musically. Jeph is also the single mastermind behind Deathmole, which started as a band inside his comic and now works as his music pseudonym (it helps that he releases his tracks free of charge, too).

I listen to music for not only the emotional response but the emotional pressure inside the songs themselves. I listen for the talent put behind each song, how each piece is made and recorded. I sometimes (rarely) listen for the sheer talent of the musician or vocalist. Sometimes I just listen for the beat or the energy. Music is in almost every aspect of my life at this point, it's very rare that I don't have some form of music playing.
