I mean, I know he's meant to be a satire of himself, but AGAIN it seems to me like he was treated like some sort of voice of reason in todays "crazy" world. Hank hill is selling fossil fuel and that's what he is - a fossil. His heavy accent drives me crazy I just want to strangle his square neck. Sometimes when I re-watch old episodes of "King of the Hill", I just want Beavis and Butthead to show up and kick his fuckin ass until propane comes out of it. |

The thing I hate about King of the Hill is that almost every character is someone I'd genuinely hate if I met them in real life. I think that's kind of what Mike Judge goes for though, like how Office Space is loved by exactly the same people it makes fun of. |

King of the Hill is the worst cartoon "sitcom" I've ever seen.

Is it just me, or is Bobby Hill a sort of "special" kid? |

I for one thoroughly enjoy this show. The worst part about it is people trying to do impressions of Hank. |

Dale is the only half-way decent character. The town and the stories for the episodes are uninteresting. |

When I first watched King of the Hill, I thought it was so freakin' boring, but for some reason, I kept watching. Ironically, its dullness was what got me hooked. Hank's blind conservatism is just really funny. Like there was an episode where he met a gay couple in the park and assumed they were brothers, until they took him to a gay bar, where he said everything went "horribly wrong". Oh and how can you not love his signature "BWAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!" |

Well, maybe if you look at it that way, but it still proves my point: King of the Hill is a show with only antagonists because, face it, there is no hero in this show. Bobby could have probably be a true protagonist of the series, he is the least repulsive character. He's like Eric Cartman after a lobotomy. But he has only so little screen time that it seems like we hardly get to know him at all! Then again, it has it's charm to it, in small dosages - I guess, it was the point of the show: unlike in Daria, the viewers didn't have a smart main character who would explain what's right and what's wrong, so they had to make their own damn minds. Maybe that is what this show was all about. And Boomhauer is a completely pointless character as well. Edited by Yar, 8 Feb 2012, 11:51 AM.

I can't believe you're actually trying to pull this moronic ostrich argument. "If ye dun liket than ye can just gedout derpy derp!" Really intelligent, bro - having opinions only on those things that you enjoy, that's really multi-dimensional erudition you got there. And, besides, how is that even possible? a) How can you watch only things you like if you don't know for sure will you like them or not due to the nature of media entertainment b) How can you have an opinion on something you haven't watched enough to like or dislike? Or are you against voicing negative opinions in general? Then, by your own logic, why have you even bothered to reply to the comment you have disliked and don't agree with? You should only read comments you like and only communicate with those who agree with you. Bottom line is, your remark was completely pointless, you should strangle yourself with a plastic bag duct-taped to your neck. Edited by Yar, 8 Feb 2012, 07:05 PM.

So thanks to this thread I was watching some King of the Hill episodes, and one of the jokes was while flipping through a photo album, Bobby notices a picture from Hank and Peggy's wedding. They're shaking hands. How is that not hilarious!? This show is awesome. |

I really don't analyze the show on that level. I think it's a nice contrast to Mike Judge's Beavis and Butthead, though. |

Well, to be honest, I have re-watched some episodes too, and I must say that Hank does have a lot of positive values to him: he is frank, he isn't your every day religious freak - in fact, he is somewhat skeptical about religion - and he does have some "being the only sane person" moments, but then again, to make people like Hank sane, you have to set the sanity bar pretty low. I especially could relate to Hank in the episode when the Asians are building a giant mansion in his neighborhood, because that is a pretty big problem here where I live - not the Asians, but illegal development. Though the ending to this episode was pretty anti-climatic, and nobody have really changed. If I remember correctly, he was sent to the Special Ad class at some point. And Hank is such an asshole to his kid - he never gives him a break, he's always disappointed in him, he's never glad. I'm not saying he doesn't love his son, but his love is too tough, it's almost psychotic, the child is definitely gonna have some trauma. Edited by Yar, 9 Feb 2012, 12:29 PM.

It's basically a replay of Hank's relationship with his own hard-ass father. However I don't think the kid would have trauma, he will grow up to be a fairly well-rounded individual, just like Hank. Even as a kid he has a pretty sharp wit at times and he's not a total introvert despite being a bit of a loser in his school. I think Hank is an excellent father, honestly. He attempts to imbue in his child a respect for hard work, the value of a dollar, frugal living, modesty and honesty as well as teaching him to fight his own battles and take an interest in things around the house (I think in one episode he shows him how to disassemble a carburetor or some such).
