I dont know about you guys but the Final Fantasy games changed my life in a small way ofc but still...I used to play only Sport and driving games when i was a kid and then when i bought my first Ps2 i got a few games with it, some of those were ff7,8 and 9 <3 Like ive said before im the worst critic ever but theres something about those games that make me wanna replay them over and over, think ive played thru ff9 at least 8-10 times ![]() Then ff10 came and it was brilliant too, then ff11...hmm online o.O /care. It was with ff12 that they went away from the regular formula...i liked pretty much everything except the combat system ;/ ff13: ohh boy....what da faaak >.< ITS EYECANDY! but....i dunno, it didnt feel like a final fantasy game at all to me.... I didnt even bother finishing it, i played to last boss and watched the ending scene on youtube lol. ff13-2: First ff game that i didnt care about AT ALL, i saw it on the shelf one day and was like *ohh...its out huh?...oww well* :/ Anyone else think its just gettin worse and worse? Gief back old formula! its the one u got popular with! it obviously worked >.< |

They will become exponentially shittier until distinguishing them from literal shit will require forensic testing. |

The only one I really liked (barely played any, however) was FF Tactics. Good characters, good story, good gameplay. I'll replay that game many times. |

I pretty much agree with Taelôk. I enjoyed the 8th and the 10th the most, and still loved the 7th, 9th and 12th, but I tried to play the 13th, despite some severe warnings, and it was every bit as atrocious as I'd been told. It really does need to die. Edited by Ardat, 2 Apr 2012, 03:40 AM.

Mmmm my favourites was 8 and 10, I have a fondness for 7 and 9 though. 10 part 2, sucked complete donkey balls, so I never finished that one. Didn't play 11 due to it being online, same for 14. I never got around to playing 12. But 13 isn't as bad as people seem to be saying in my opinion. The only real issue with the game is how fucking linear it was, and due to such a linear nature, can and is a grind at times. But I guess in comparison to the other final fantasy games it is a let down to the series. If it was a stand alone title, I think it wouldn't be hated so much haha, storyline, graphics, fight scenes, all aesthetically pleasing and has some decent gameplay. Just too fucking linear. That is all. Personally, I think the golden years of Final Fantasy has come to an end. It is going to go the way of Sonic and Crash Bandicoot and the likes and just be raped from now on. I just pray it goes nicely, and that The Legend of Zelda doesn't follow suit too closely. Edited by thelearningpianist, 31 Mar 2012, 04:00 AM.

Ye i didnt mention 10-2 cuz....it never happend O.O at least it had the original gameplay but bit much gurlpowah stuff i agree with everything thelearningpianist says about 13 except gameplay, i HATED the combat system >.< i only played thru it for the story and cuz it looked nice xD upgrading system was nice but seemed pointless, whenever i upgraded a weapon id just get a better one right after and then i would have to upgrade that too >.< I just realized how much i sound like a older friend i got when hes yammering on about zelda and castlevania and how it used to be so much better xD |

It's sad. I've played the FF games all the way back to when they were originally released on the NES. My brother even found emulators for the versions they didn't release in English and I played those long before they were translated and sold here. In fact, the series kinda dictated my video game console choices: I got NES in the 8-bit generation, went to Super NES when Final Fantasy 2 came out on it and then switched to Playstation when FF7 moved there. And, yeah, the series seemed to hit its stride with FF7 and FF10. Heck, even Final Fantasy Tactics, which was released in that time period (although, I'm pretty sure it's a translation of a non-FF game that they just threw the FF tag onto for marketing purposes). Problem is, since then, the series has gone down hill. 11, online, kinda 'meh' for me. 12 was decent and different, but still not as good as 10. 13 was just a nightmare; I got just a little way in it before getting bored and giving up (and since my XBox was stolen last week, I don't see myself trying it again any time soon). I've heard that FF14 is going to be another online game and I'd try it, but I'm wanting to keep my online gaming limited to World of Warcraft. I don't want the series to die; I want somebody to go back and play the GOOD FF games, figure out what made them good and use those features to make better games in the future. So far, they seem to be resisting that. Shame. |

They are indeed becoming shittier. Mostly because they are becoming greedier and trying to appeal to a wider audience. Which means more money to fill their pockets of course. So rather than put the effort they used to put in to making classic rpgs they just sort of make something and then slap Final Fantasy whatever number on the title. |

Let me tell you a little story about Final Fantasy XIV. It is one of the worst games that has ever been released. Do no even think about playing that game if you care anything about the franchise! Now... What will save this franchise? Good characters that aren't all Metro-sexual Justin Biebers, "UGoo! kaito nakamura! Yatta!" anime girls, and emotionally disabled war-brats. We need a good villain, that the word and title "villain" itself can not do the character any justice. That's right! We need another Kefka and Emperor! We need villains that destroy anything, have a great back story, and can really intimidate the player characters! We need protagonists with a back story as jaw-dropping as Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy VI, and Final Fantasy VII. We need characters that can only scrape by with an alright ending. Last but not least we need a stellar soundtrack. The series needs a soundtrack that is worthy of Final Fantasy VI and Final Fantasy VII. Final Fantasy XIII's battle theme was a catchy little tune compared to Dancing Mad or One Winged Angel! So how can the greatest gaming series in History be destroyed. They will not stop making Final Fantasy games, I hope everyone knows. They just need to start making them better. It reminds me of Squeenix's new Slogan. "Square Enix: Because Fuck You Guys!"

I enjoyed playing FF13, though i'm stuck on near the end of the 2nd disc... fuuu. But the visuals are indeed eye-candy no less. I got FF13-2, haven't really played it but i'm considering on going back to it. When it came to Final fantasy tactics Advance 1 & 2, i overly enjoyed them- so many hours well spent ![]() I don't think Final Fantasy series has to die, i think perhaps just taking some years off, come up with an awesome game to lure and bring back the true fans of the series. Going kinda off topic, but i would love to see a HD remake of Chrono Cross for not just the PS3, but for Xbox 360. |
