Death penalty or none?; Give us your thoughts

What are your guy's/girl's thoughts on this subject?

My position is no death penalty , because of chance of killing innocent people . On another point , even if we know 100% for certain in worst case scenarios we isolate them from society . I don't see what there is to gain from execution.
And to stay consistent with my deterministic view , the idea of retribution is unjustifiable. First we should determine if we can rehabilitate them , then if it's a lost cause , incarcerate them for life . I'm oversimplifying things here , but I'll try elaborate as the discussion moves forward.

A recent video on exoneration because of DNA testing.

Why did I come back here again?
None.
And I say that as someone who have been attempted killed.

the death penalty is FTW, some people just really need to die.

That's irrelevant.

That's irrelevant.
Normally, yes.
But it's pretty much a preemptive statement, as these discussions almost always get a "Well how would you feel if--"

What if you can't be 100% sure they are guilty? Why not let them be in prison because you can at least let them go if it turns out they are not guilty

Whether something should be done or not should be determined by the utility of doing it. Capital punishment does not benefit society. The cost of executing some one has been shown to be higher than the cost of imprisoning them. Hundreds of people are exonerated every year, many of those have been on death row.

There is no benefit in execution. I don't see how anyone can make any rational argument in favor of capital punishment.

Nope. The death penalty is stupid. It doesn't solve the problem, kills innocent people, and denies the possibility that some people can change.

I think the same goes for life imprisonment. At least if the limit to sentences is like 20 years a person who was wrongly convicted, but can't seem to prove their innocence, will still be able to have a life when their sentence is up.
Meh. . . .

So they only half-kill someone in the name of justice.

1. demonstrating that killing is wrong by killing just doesn't make any sense.
2. revenge has no place whatsoever in a legal system.
3. it just doesn't work in terms of deterrence, as far as I know that has been shown.
4. mistakes can be made, in most cases you can never know what really happened.

Supporting death panelty shows that even though your body walks around in the 21st century, your brain somehow miracly hovers around in the middle-ages.

I only support the death penalty in the most extreme of cases, where the perpetrator is too dangerous to be kept alive. The only people I can think of that would fall under that is people like Osama bin Laden or someone like that.

I've already made my opinion known, where I oppose it all but for a small handful of situations.

massacres, war crimes, treason and such.
