If you saw your neighbor, friend, or anybody near you, really, abusing an animal, what would you do? Depending on how bad it is, I would vary from calling the cops to going over there and personally kicking the asshole in the face. |
| I heard you like short sigs... so i made this. | |

Nothing. It's an animal. I likely would want nothing to do with the individual but I would do nothing to prevent it unless I can think of some way that it is harming me. |

Yeah, you go on and look for more reasons to justify your wish to make someone's life a little bit more miserable but also allow you to feel good about yourself. Why won't you just go and kick your neighbor's ass for a more obvious reason: because you want to? |

So what? You're against animal abuse laws, because humans are just too fucking awesome? |

No, but I'm also against unjustified violence and self-righteous vigilantism - especially green-based vigilantism. Didn't it occur to anybody to just ask this hypothetic neighbor to stop before calling the cops or getting into fight with him? Is solving problems with words nonexistent anymore? |

It's animal abuse, not a simple slap. You're against self-righteous vigilantism, but you want random people that just volunteer to be able to stalk and spy cops and have authority over them. Can your brain think? What unjustified violence? You abuse an animal, you go to prison. It's justified. You just said you were for animal abuse laws. Also, moron, calling the cops isn't "self-righteous vigilantism". Most of the times when the cops did something good, they got a call from a civilian. |

Even though I don't believe that animals should have any legal protections, I would be supportive of watchdog groups or interest groups who try to root out or receive reports of animal abuse and would try to uncover and disseminate the owner's whereabouts or something to that effect. It is not vigilantism to tell someone off for kicking his dog in the face. People who are cruel to animals are very often cruel to humans. Isn't it one of the signs for psychopathy and serial killers? Abusers should be called out, shamed and made to feel shitty for their actions. They should not have their asses kicked by anyone, however. As for what I would do personally: Probably talk to the person, if I knew them, and ask them to stop because I find the torture of living creatures aesthetically displeasing and depressing. If he was a repeat offender, a stranger, or someone who was committing something exceptionally heinous, I might call the cops. Maybe. Probably not, but maybe, since the option is there even though I don't technically think it should and would rather the option I mentioned up top be available. |

My post consisted of some questions directed at you and your post, which was beneath mine, answered them. If it wasn't a reply, you're too retarded to use a forum. |

We kill animals for food. We kill animals for experience. We kill animals for products. We kill animals for annoying us. We kill animals for bothering our food. We kill animals just for kicks all the time as well. How the fuck is this any different? I think a sadistic fuck that would enjoy torturing animals would also be a risk to society though so I'd likely want to keep an eye out for him and definitely wouldn't trust him. |

2 main reasons: 1) The closest thing we have to an objective ethical code is that causing unnecessary suffering is wrong. We try to kill our animals as humanly as possible and to raise them as good as possible. 2) We are responsible for our environment, because we are the smartest animals. Non-human animals are part of this environment and deserve our protection. If you think we should care about them, then we also should care about the mentally retarded and the homeless (that have no friends or family) and the orphans. |
