Being a resident of the US, I feel obligated to say that I agree with most of his diatribe. It doesn't seem at all infeasible that this nation will probably go the way of Rome and the British Empire, for reasons he outlined fairly well. I really don't care one way or the other as far as Chick Fil A itself is concerned. Priorities, man. Edited by Eugene Debs Hartke, 5 Aug 2012, 06:17 PM.

So I ask, in my writing, What is real? Because unceasingly we are bombarded with pseudo-realities manufactured by very sophisticated people using very sophisticated electronic mechanisms. I do not distrust their motives; I distrust their power. They have a lot of it. And it is an astonishing power: that of creating whole universes, universes of the mind. I ought to know. I do the same thing.” - Philip K. Dick "Existence well what does it matter? I exist on the best terms I can. I never really ate at a Chick-Fil-A before, and probably never will due to the fact that the food is for fatasses. |

If the worst human in the world (let's say he is responsible for the deaths of 4 billion people, half of my family and Jeff) had a restaurant with tasty food, I would go to that restaurant. If the best person in the world (so, Exploding Hero) owns a restaurant with great food, but the waiters are annoying or it takes too much time for the food to arrive, then fuck his restaurant. |

To appeal to the american christian reactionary with such timing seems suspicious to me. I may be a little cynical, but it seems to have been a caculated gamble which has paid off. Why would a fast food joint get involved in social politics unless doing so is of benifit.

Exactly. http://www.wlbt.com/story/19172974/customers-crowd-chick-fil-a-for-support-day They are just using a niche market (bigots) and it's a smart idea, since most companies are for gay marriage in the US, but the US has a lot of bigots. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_supporters_of_same-sex_marriage_in_the_United_States#Corporations |

It must be noted that many of those companies are playing on an international market, so they can't afford to pander to the same extent as a purely Americian fast-food joint can. |

It should be no surprise that being overtly religious in the south is quite the money maker.
